New Jumpers
Things you should know before you decide to come to the boogie!
The desert is a weird place with weird winds. From micro-climates to dust devils this can be some of the most technical jumping you will ever do. Ask questions and seek out knowledge from credible sources.
High altitude makes landings way faster than sea level. The Airport is 4500ft above sea level. Its like a free downsize. We see density altitude up to 10,000ft in the summer…
Density altitude really matters here. If you don’t know what density altitude is you can read up on it here: https://uspa.org/SIM/5-5
Please make sure you have a full understanding of what this means before you come to the boogie.Offsites aren’t as cut and dry as you were lead to believe.
We aren’t jumping into flat areas. This matters because based on your spot, you may be getting out above a mesa , butte or tower.
Heres the scenario: Your alti is set to ground level at the bottom of the canyon, but due to the winds aloft the spot is over the canyon rim… this means that the ground level is 1500ft higher than your alti is reading. If you cutaway at 2000ft according to what your altimeter is reading, you will be cutting away 500ft above the ground. This will not end well. You can look at the elevation maps for each offsite on their respective pages and plan accordingly. Here are links on how to change your offset for your AADs
Cypress Offset change. How you set your offset on alti and AAD matter. Their relationship to each-other matter. If you offset your alti but not your AAD, your AAD will fire higher than your Alti will be showing.
As a licensed skydiver you are solely responsible for your actions and their consequences. We maintain the value of radical self reliance. Only licensed skydivers are allowed to jump during the boogie.
There are tons of skydives of all skill levels, don’t get in above your head. There are organizers here specifically to facilitate fun and safe skydives. Seek them out.
